What is Aquillrelle for Children?

Aquillrelle for children aims, with this contest formula, to create a permanent stage for children to present their written, drawn and painted art to the world. Allowing painted/drawn submissions will open the door to international participation. We prefer to communicate with the parents, however the artistic expression we will show and promote is that of your children.

We intend to do it by creating a “selection contest”, where any reasonable artful creation which fits our basic criteria will be selected to be presented on a page on this site, and will be published in a book in color.

Since we deal with children and we aim to encourage everybody’s creativity, our selection criteria will be a simple pass/fail based on beauty, originality, enthusiasm, imagination. There are no specific content guidelines. There are countless ways to be one of the selected winners, there is one certain way to fail: degrading others.

We have no way of checking the veracity of the contestants and their age, we rely on your honesty and our sound judgment. The judges' decision is final.

  Countdown, places available: 116

Aquillrelle Children Contest 1 - OPEN!

Winners... as they come

This is the first, in what we hope will become a long stream of children contests.

The guidelines follow.

1. Contestants:

- age up to 12, inclusive. Communication is with parents, legal tutors.

2. Fee:

- FREE, no entry fee whatsoever.

3. Prize:

- being included and published in a colored book of 120 chosen entries. You grant us a one time publishing rights, you keep the copyright to your child's art entry.

4. Submission:

- for any child, you can submit maximum two (2) entries, to which you own the copyright. We will choose from these one or none; considering the fact that the artists are children, we allow errors, colors, inaccuracies (as long as the result is not just a meaningless jumble).

5. Submission rules:

- any subject, in line with our general respect for others policy.

- can be new or previously published.

- for typed poems - maximum 35 lines including empty lines, excluding title.

- for handwritten poems, paintings, drawings - a .jpg scan, resolution 100, taking into account they will be sized to fit a 6"x9" page size (and allowing about 1" for frame and margins). (NOTE: color reproduction is a science; since we want to stick to familiar reality, you have to know that the resulting colors in print will be close but not equal to the original; you should preferably scan in CMYK mode and not RGB mode).

- frame - we are open to your preferred suggestions; these should come as a separate file, to allow independent scaling. In all other case we will use one of our frames (we will not play with the background).

- material to be sent as email attachments. Email address: aquillrelle(at)aquillrelle.com. Subject: Aquillrelle Children Contest 1 submission. Please mention parent/tutor name and country (for US - the state as well), and the young artist's name, age and country (for US - the state as well).

- note: (the following is up to the parent/tutor) we will allow a short description of the child's hobies, ideas, etc, together with either her/his picture or a representative drawing of any kind.

6. Contest conclusion:

- once we collect 120 entries that are suitable for inclusion in the collection, the contest closes automatically and a note placed on this page and in our News page.

- the entrants who are included will be informed by email. We apologize up-front to all the others, taste is a terribly subjective matter, and timing plays a key role as well - first come first served.

- the 120 selected poets and their poems will be published, in the order of their arrival to us, in a Children Art Collection printed under Lulu. After release of the collection, anyone will be able to order it from Lulu, either as downloadable or as paper. The estimated time frame is 3 months.

- the selected entries will also be published on a page on our site, until such time as the following contest finishes and the results are over-written.
